Some Things I Like About the Summer

Summertime is always fun time for me. As a former teacher, I treasured my summers to regenerate ideas, relax, let down, and have fun – things I never had time to do during the school year. Even though I’m no longer teaching, I still cherish my summers. As a kid, I remember my mom and dad making summer so much fun for us. We hardly ever got to go anywhere on a true vacation except to my Great-grandparent’s house in Georgia or to visit other family. But we regularly had campouts in the back yard and stayed up late to watch the meteor showers. One time my mom even made a genuine teepee with sticks and blankets and the thing was huge! She let me keep it up in our backyard for several days. I had so much fun being an Indian. Having some Indian heritage, I was obsessed with Indian things. I had moccasins and read every book about Indians I could find. Another thing I loved was swimming lessons. I have always loved to swim even though I’m just an average swimmer. But swimming lessons was a way to get in the pool. Our church had regular outings to a huge swimming pool and we had picnics and got to dive off the high dive. I went to the beach for the first time when I was 14 and loved it. I have Southern blood from my mom and her family and knew Southern living by the coast was all for me! (I just took my time getting here! :D ) Both my mom and my grandma were shell collectors and I guess it was inevitable that I would become obsessed too. I love going to the beach in the summers to find new shells. Bringing them home, cleaning them up, and then figuring out what to do with them is all in the fun. Since I live in the South, I wear flip flops all the time practically, but never more than in the summer. Flip flops are always associated with summertime fun! There are many things I love about summer. And these are just a few!
